Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister and Member for Grayndler Anthony Albanese today announced the Federal Labor Government will provide $220,000 to fix a dangerous black spot on City West Link, Leichhardt.
The approved project is:

• City West Link, between James Street and Norton Street, at Leichhardt: $220,000 to install high friction surfacing on the westbound through lanes only from 50m prior to Norton Street to 50m beyond James Street intersection, and to upgrade to LED traffic lights which last longer and are brighter

“The project was recommended by a panel of independent road safety experts and will be delivered during the course of the coming financial year,” Mr Albanese said.
“Over the last five years, there have been 33 road crashes that have resulted in injury.
“This investment will make one of our busiest local roads safer for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.”
“One of the best things about our Black Spot Program is that anyone can suggest an intersection or section of road they believe should be considered for a safety upgrade.

Nationally, the Federal Labor Government has doubled funding for the Black Spot program to half a billion dollars – more than honouring our election commitments.
A recent evaluation of the Black Spots program found that fatal and casualty crashes are reduced at treated sites by 30%, which translates to the saving of one life per year for every 84 projects.  It also returns around $7.70 for every $1 invested by reducing the number and cost of crashes.
