Anthony Albanese, Minister for Infrastructure, Regional Development and Local Government, today announced the Rudd Labor Government would provide $6,322,630 in Financial Assistance Grants in this financial year.
Mr Albanese was in Hervey Bay today with the Fraser Coast Regional Council.
“The Rudd Labor Government is supporting local communities by funding vital infrastructure and services,” Mr Albanese said.
“We are providing record funding to local governments to improve local roads, provide libraries, sports grounds, swimming pools, community centres and other services.
“Across Queensland, the Rudd Labor Government is delivering $378 million in Financial Assistance Grants to local councils in 2009-10.
“This is on top of funding through the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (more than $1.5 million for Fraser Coast since November 2008) and our Roads to Recovery program (more than $1.2 million in 2009-10).”
Mr Albanese said, “This is great news for local residents. The council will be able to spend its grant on local priorities to deliver roads and services for the Fraser Coast community.”
“To help the council deal with the effects of the global recession, the Rudd Government brought forward $1,665,828 of Fraser Coast’s 2009-10 grant and provided it to the council in June.”
The level of Financial Assistance Grant for each Queensland council was recommended by the Queensland Local Government Grants Commission, a body established under Queensland legislation.
Fraser Coast will receive its quarterly Financial Assistance Grant payment this week.
