Acma Rules On Pacific Highway News Story

I welcome today’s release by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) of its final investigation report into a news item aired by NBN and the Nine Network on 19 January 2012, entitled ‘Fatal Diversion’.
ACMA found the item was both inaccurate and unfair.
Specifically, they concluded:

“It was therefore a significant, indeed an egregious, departure from the facts to say that the Federal Government had diverted funds away from the Pacific Highway…

“…the item did not present the news fairly and impartially in relation to Anthony Albanese, the Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport…”

The full copy of ACMA’s report is attached.
In the period since the complaint was lodged with ACMA, I have received a letter of apology from the Nine Network’s Managing Director Jeffrey Browne.
