Carer Payments Still On Abbott Chopping Block

If Tony Abbott gets his way, more than 1100 carers in the Inner West will be up to $80 worse off per week within the next decade.

Labor blocked Tony Abbott’s unfair Carer Payment and pension cuts in the Senate.
 But the battle isn’t over.
The Abbott Government has introduced fresh legislation into Parliament to give effect to his cruel and unfair Budget that will slash indexation arrangements for pensions, including the Carer Payment, reducing the real value of income support carers providing care to a family member or friend.
Under the Coalition, Inner West carers face having the value of their Carer Payment cut by up to $4,000 per year within ten years according to the Australian Council of Social Service.
I have already been approached by carers who find it difficult to make ends meet.
Carers provide more than $40 billion in unpaid care annually, which would otherwise need to be met by our health, aged care and community services sector.
The Abbott Government should be making it easier for carers to support their family.
