Family Visa Changes Will Impact Inner West

In a move that will hurt migrant families in the Inner West, the Abbott Government has axed the Non-contributory Parent visa and Other Family visa category.

The Inner West is widely recognised for its multiculturalism. This vibrancy and diversity is what makes it such a great place to live and work.
I am pleased my Electorate Office in Grayndler has been able to help so many families bring their loved ones to Australia.
Yet cutting the Non-contributory Parent visa category will close the door on low and middle-income families being able to bring their parents to Australia.
Cutting the Carer visa category will hurt families, making it expensive and difficult to arrange much needed care for family members.
This is an unfair and cruel move by a Government that is completely out of touch with ethnic communities. It means unless families can fork out up to $125,000 there is no chance of bringing their parents to Australia.
Inner West families should not have to face such hurdles to be reunited with loved ones.
We are committed to standing up for our multicultural communities and in a bid to fight these changes Labor has moved a disallowance motion in the Parliament.
The Liberals have seven sitting days left to bring this motion on for a debate.
