Stephen Bartos has been appointed a new Member of the International Air Services Commission (IASC).
The IASC promotes economic efficiency and competition in international aviation services, including through the allocation of air rights for Australian international airlines under Australia’s international air services agreements.
It plays an important role in fostering a strong and competitive airline industry to benefit Australian travellers through lower airfares and more choice.
The IASC also plays a key role in the delivery of the Federal Government’s commitment to support a vibrant domestic aviation industry as set out in our National Aviation White Paper.
Mr Bartos, who takes up this part-time position from Thursday, 1 July, will bring a great deal of experience and expertise in economics and public administration to his role.
He is currently a Director of the international legal and economics consulting firm LECG and also brings with him a long career across government, industry and academia in the fields of finance, governance, regulation, competition and transport.
I look forward to working with him to continue strengthening Australia’s international aviation sector.
Mr Bartos will join existing Member Ian W. Smith on the Commission.
I pay tribute to the previous Chairperson, the late John Martin, and outgoing Member, Philippa Stone, for their dedicated service to the International Air Services Commission over a number of years.
