Labor Will Build Dunns Creek Road And Ease Congestion For Queanbeyan

Federal and State Labor Governments will partner to invest $135 million to build the Dunns Creek Road, a key piece of regional infrastructure for residents of Queanbeyan, Googong and Jerrabomberra.
NSW Labor will provide half the cost, or $65 million, as well as $2.5 million for planning which will establish the best route and most cost-effective way to build the project.
NSW Labor will make sure Queanbeyan and the communities around it have the infrastructure they need instead of spending $2.2 billion on Sydney stadiums.
Labor has listened to the residents of the Googong and Jerrabomberra communities who have repeatedly called for Dunns Creek Road to be made a priority.
Existing roads into Canberra through Jerrabomberra and Queanbeyan are becoming more congested during the morning and evening commute. These roads will come under increasing pressure in the future as Googong continues to grow.
Queanbeyan is the fastest growing regional area in NSW and Labor will build the infrastructure needed to ease congestion and make sure residents in Queanbeyan can easily commute to and from work.
Residents in Googong will get direct access to the Monaro Highway under Labor’s plan to build Dunns Creek Road.
Federal Labor Shadow Transport and Infrastructure Minister Anthony Albanese said Federal Labor recognised the importance of working with other levels of government to tackle traffic congestion.
Mr Albanese said: “This isn’t only important in capital cities, but also in regional Australia.
“While the Morrison Government has been focused on its internals, we’ve been developing practical solutions like the Dunns Creek Road project to boost productivity and make a practical improvement for local residents.”
NSW Shadow Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight Jodi Mckay said: “This is what happens when Labor works together. Labor will build Dunns Creek Road instead of spending $2.2 billion on Sydney stadiums.
“Queanbeyan is the fastest growing regional area in NSW, but under the NSW Liberals and Nationals, taxpayers’ money is spent on stadiums in Sydney instead of much needed infrastructure here.”
Federal Labor Member for Eden-Monaro, Dr Mike Kelly said: “Today, Federal and State Labor have delivered for residents in Googong and Jerrabomberra who have been calling for this project. Labor has heard the community loud and clear.
“A Federal Labor Government will match Michael Daley and NSW Labor’s commitment to build Dunns Creek Road because we know this is essential infrastructure if we want our region to grow, and at the same time remain a great place to live.”
NSW Country Labor Candidate for Monaro Bryce Wilson said: “Today is a great day for Queanbeyan. Labor has listened to local residents and our commitment to building Dunns Creek Road will deliver an easier commute to and from work for families across Queanbeyan.
“I have been working with the communities in Googong and Jerrabomberra to get this done. My priorities are making sure our community has the infrastructure it needs to grow sustainably, instead of spending $2.2 billion in taxpayers' money on stadiums in Sydney.”
