New Chair For Sydney Aiport Community Forum

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Barry Cotter as Chair of the Sydney Airport Community Forum (SACF), following the recent resignation of Mr Vic Smith.

Mr Cotter has had a long involvement with Sydney Airport both as a local resident and a former Marrickville councillor and mayor.

While recognising the importance of the Airport to the NSW and national economies, Mr Cotter has consistently championed the need for genuine dialogue between its operators and local residents.

I would like to thank Mr Smith for his excellent stewardship and wish Mr Cotter all the best in his new role.

SACF advises the Government on noise abatement and related environment issues, providing an important voice for the communities around Sydney Airport.

The Forum also allows the community to engage directly with the operators of Sydney Airport as well as Airservices Australia on the Airport’s noise sharing plan.

In the past 10 months, SACF has dealt with some substantial challenges, including the implications of the safety upgrade being carried out at one end of the Airport’s East-West runway – a situation they continue to monitor.

I understand members have also been working together to provide a comprehensive submission on the Airport’s latest draft Master Plan, and I am pleased with the cooperative spirit all members have adopted in their role as representatives of Sydney residents.
