Rudd Labor Government Invests In Jobs And Protects Our Important Heritage

Federal Member for Grayndler, Anthony Albanese, today applauded Australian Government investment of $602,839 for two heritage projects in Grayndler.

$582,000 has been allocated to St Stephens Anglican Church in Newtown, and involves the restoration of stonework of the spire, and will be the culmination of decades of conservation work to this Gothic revival Anglican Church.

$20,839 has been allocated to the Ramsay Graveyard and Vault Restoration Project in Haberfield to allow for repairs and maintenance.

“By investing in our heritage, the Government is helping to build employment opportunities, enhance local technical expertise, and improve facilities in Grayndler,” Mr Albanese said.

The funding is part of the Australian Government’s $650 million Jobs Fund. Of this, $60 million was available for projects relating to Australia’s historic, Indigenous and natural heritage places – the largest ever investment in Australia’s heritage.

“This funding recognises the crucial role that heritage that conservation can play in stimulating our economic health.”
