Truss Looks When He Should Hide

Today's latest contribution to the Bruce Highway from the Leader of the Nationals Warren Truss that the transport industry is concerned about Queensland roads would be farcical if it wasn't so serious.
This is the only response of the alternative government after a two day fact finding tour of Rockhampton.
After 6 years, it is not unreasonable to expect a funding commitment from the Coalition rather than more looking tours.
I hope they at least looked at the work underway around Rockhampton, including the duplication of the bridge at Yeppen Lagoon where we are also adding a new lane through the Yeppen Roundabout.
Mr Truss could also have looked at the site of the Yeppen South Floodplain Upgrade where the Federal Labor Government has committed the funds needed to build this $300 million upgrade.
Right now, there are more than a thousand workers busy upgrading the Bruce Highway.
Given that the former Coalition Government invested just $1.3 billion in the Bruce Highway over 12 years, it’s no wonder Warren Truss hides from any commitment to the Bruce Highway. He prefers to just observe as if he were not a participant who had presided over chronic neglect as Transport Minister in the Howard Government.
Only Federal Labor has a track record of investment in the Bruce Highway, something we will continue with our $4.1 billion plan, which will include work on the:

  • Cairns Southern Access Corridor between Robert Road to Foster Road;

  • North Queensland Flood Immunity Package;

  • Pavement Widening between St Lawrence to Bowen;

  • Mackay Ring Road;

  • Mackay Northern Access upgrade;

  • Rockhampton Northern Access Corridor;

  • Cooroy to Curra Sections A, C and D; and

  • Upgrade between Caloundra Road to Sunshine Motorway.
