Badgerys Creek Should Ensure Environmental Best Practice

Labor calls on the Turnbull Government to carefully consider all public submissions on the proposed Badgerys Creek Airport to ensure community views are taken into account over this important project.
Submissions on the draft environmental impact study must be lodged by Friday.
Federal Labor supports the construction of an airport at Badgerys Creek. It will be an economic game changer for Western Sydney, providing jobs and increased economic activity for generations to come.
For the airport to be a success, it is important that best environmental practice be implemented on the greenfield site.
That means the airport design, provision of related road and rail infrastructure and airspace operations that minimise noise impacts must be essential components of the development.
It is also critical that the airport is connected to Sydney’s passenger rail network when it opens in 2025.
I had a constructive meeting with representatives of the Blue Mountains City Council last week about their concerns to ensure minimisation of noise impacts.
We’ll only get one chance to build Sydney’s second airport. We need to get it right to ensure maximum economic benefit whilst also ensuring sustainable environmental outcomes.
