Bruce Highway Upgrade: Work Begins On Another Overtaking Lane

Construction of a new 1.1 kilometre southbound overtaking lane along the Bruce Highway near Bauple – 40 kilometres south of Maryborough – is now underway and on track to be completed by the middle of next year.
The $6 million project will provide yet another opportunity for motorists to pass slower moving vehicles safely, complementing the safety improvements completed last year at the nearby intersection with Bauple Drive.
The project contract was awarded to Georgiou Group.
We are building a Bruce Highway which supports rather than hinders the State’s growth, a multibillion dollar capital works program which right now is putting more than 3,500 people to work, both direct and indirect.
Since coming to office in late 2007, Federal Labor has committed more than $3.3 billion to upgrading the Bruce Highway.  When compared to the former Howard government’s record of just $1.3 billion over 12 years, we’re investing twice as much in half the time.
As well as rebuilding critical sections of the Highway, this unprecedented funding is also being used to:

  • Install 50 new overtaking lanes;

  • Fix over 100 dangerous black spots between Caboolture and Cairns;

  • Build some 24 new rest areas and stopping places as well as upgrading a significant number of existing rest areas.
