The Camperdown community in Southern Victoria today celebrated the opening of the Leura Oval upgrade and seven other important community infrastructure projects in the region.

Anthony Albanese, Minister for infrastructure and Local Government, said the Rudd Labor Government provided $538,000 to the Corangamite Shire Council for the $1.49 million worth of projects, from our Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (RLCIP).

"The RLCIP now totals more than $1 billion and is a key part of our Economic Stimulus Plan, delivering local jobs in communities across Australia by building infrastructure for the long term.

"Importantly, during construction of these projects18 jobs were supported, providing a boost to the local economy.

The Leura Oval upgrade involved the construction of new social rooms for the Camperdown Football and Netball Club, including a large social space, commercial kitchen, upstairs viewing area and improvements to both the netball and football sports facilities.

"Leura Oval user groups have welcomed the improvements which will be used by approximately 500 people a week in the winter season and 200 people a week during the summer," Mr Albanese said.

The seven other projects included the South Beach Amenities and Picnic Area, the Hampden Tennis Lighting project, the Timboon Stadium Wall Project, ‘Community Facility Climate Change’ environmental improvements, the Lismore and Skipton Netball Courts and the Terang Community Centre Car Park.

"In partnership with every council in the country we are delivering more than 4,900 small and larger scale building projects like these, including new and refurbished public libraries, sporting facilities, parks and playgrounds, and child care centres," Mr Albanese said.

"In fact, we are making the single largest federal investment in community infrastructure through the RLCIP.

"I congratulate the Corangamite Shire Council, and the local community for helping to deliver these eight projects, and helping to build a stronger region for the future," Mr Albanese concluded.
