Contract Awarded For Herons Creek To Stills Road Upgrade

The full duplication of the Pacific Highway continues to gather pace, with BMD Constructions Pty Ltd selected to build a new northbound carriageway between Herons Creek and Stills Road as well as a new interchange at the Bago Road intersection.

The appointment of a builder to this $60 million project clears the way for work to begin early next year and be completed by late 2012.

As well as duplicating over 3.5 kilometres of the Pacific Highway, the project will also improve safety around Herons Creek Public School and complements the work occurring elsewhere along this road.

Indeed this upgrade is just one part of the $3.1 billion capital works program we’re rolling out up and down the Pacific Highway, with more than 1,000 workers currently onsite building close to 70 kilometres of new road.

The full duplication of this road is the largest nation building road project currently underway anywhere in the country and compared to our predecessors we’re investing more than twice as much in the half the time.

In fact if the former Howard Government had made a financial commitment equal to ours then the Pacific Highway would today be almost fully duplicated.

In addition to the funding being provided by the Gillard Labor Government, the Keneally Labor Government is contributing a further $500 million towards the ongoing duplication of the Pacific Highway.
