A Better Boat Ramp For Palmerston

A Shorten Labor Government will deliver improved recreational fishing facilities for the Palmerston boat ramp.
If elected, a Federal Labor Government will invest to upgrade infrastructure at the boat ramp including construction of a fishing kiosk, a caretaker’s cottage, a boat wash-down pad and expanded lighting and CCTV security cameras.
With one in four Palmerston residents owning a boat, recreational fishing is a key part of the Territory lifestyle.
The boat ramp is heavily used by Palmerston residents as well as people from Darwin and the rural area. However, the facilities are basic and in need of an upgrade to better service Top End anglers.
This commitment will improve a valued community asset as well as make the facility a safer, more secure place for people to leave their cars and trailers while they are out on the water.
It will also support the growing recreational fishing industry, a sector that creates jobs and attracts tourists. Fishing tourism is estimated to contribute $26 million to the Northern Territory economy each year and offering modern fishing infrastructure enhances the Territory’s reputation as a world class fishing destination.
Federal Labor will invest a total of $500,000 and the project will be delivered in partnership with the Northern Territory Government.
Today’s announcement supports Territorians to get out and enjoy the fantastic fishing opportunities the Northern Territory has to offer.
