Labor Commits To Upgrade Cross Road Level Crossing

A Shorten Labor Government will boost productivity and road safety at Westbourne Park by investing $105 million to eliminate the Cross Road level crossing.
This election will be a choice between a Shorten Labor Government with a plan for infrastructure, or more of the Liberals’ cuts and chaos.
The level crossing is a traffic accident black spot and a cause of frustration to motorists. More than 35,000 vehicles cross the intersection of Cross Road and the Belair railway line each day.
Governments must work together to fix the Cross Road level crossing, not only to improve safety but also to ease congestion and boost productivity.
A Shorten Labor Government will partner with the South Australian Government to deliver this important project as soon as possible.
After nearly six years of cuts and chaos under the Abbott-Turnbull-Morrison Government, Australia needs a Shorten Labor Government to bring a renewed focus on infrastructure investment.
Today’s announcement builds on the other significant commitments we have made across Adelaide, including our $2.7 billion investment to deliver the next stage in the ongoing upgrade of South Road, with priority to be given to the section between the Glenelg Tram Overpass and Tonsley.
Without ongoing investment in transformative projects like level crossing removals and the South Road Upgrade, the annual economic cost of congestion in Adelaide alone will more than double to $3.8 billion by 2031.
After six years of Liberal cuts and chaos, our united Labor team is ready.
