Labor To Focus On Trade With Indonesia

Today I will visit Indonesia for my first official overseas trip as Leader of the Australian Labor Party.
Our relationship with Indonesia is indispensable.
Making Indonesia my first foreign visit as Labor Leader is about investing early in this relationship.
Indonesia is central to the shape and character of our region.
It is the world’s third largest democracy.
It has the world’s largest Muslim population.
And by 2050, Indonesia is projected to be the world’s fourth largest economy.
We have a shared interest in a stable, prosperous region.
There is real scope to strengthen our diplomatic and economic engagement with one of our closest neighbours.
I will be accompanied by Shadow Foreign Minister Penny Wong as well as Member for Solomon Luke Gosling, who is chairperson of the Labor caucus’s Regional Trade Task Force.
