Economy

Mr ALBANESE (GrayndlerLeader of the Opposition) (14:57): I move:

That so much of the standing orders be suspended as would prevent the House immediately debating the state of the Australian economy, with the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition speaking for a period of up to 10 minutes each and four other Members speaking for a period of up to 5 minutes each.

What we see in this chamber is a government that is arrogant, a government that's not prepared to debate the economy—

The SPEAKER: The Leader of the Opposition will resume his seat. I call the Leader of the House.

Mr PORTER (PearceAttorney-General, Minister for Industrial Relations and Leader of the House) (14:58): I move:

That the Member be no longer heard.

The SPEAKER: The question is that the Leader of the Opposition be no further heard.

The House divided. [15:02]
(The Speaker—Hon. Tony Smith)
