Nyora Community Now Shooting Hoops

The Nyora community today began their 2010 netball season with the opening of the upgraded Nyora Recreation Reserve, including two new netball courts.

Anthony Albanese, Minister for Infrastructure and Local Government, said the Rudd Labor Government provided $124,000 to the South Gippsland Shire Council for the project from the $1 billion Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (RLCIP).

"The RLCIP is a key part of our Economic Stimulus Plan and is delivering local jobs in communities across Australia by building infrastructure for the long term.

"Importantly, local contractors were engaged during the construction of the upgrade, providing a boost to the local economy.

"The project included the construction of two all-weather netball courts, new change room facilities and a new administration building.

"In partnership with every council in the country we are delivering over 4,900 small and larger scale building projects like these, including new and refurbished public libraries, sporting facilities, parks and playgrounds, and child care centres.

"In fact, we are making the single largest federal investment in community infrastructure through the RLCIP.

"I congratulate the South Gippsland Shire Council, and the community for helping deliver this project, and helping to build a stronger region for the future," Mr Albanese concluded.
