Record Low Airfares Expose Tony Abbott's Carbon Lies

For the second time in less than a week, Tony Abbott’s Carbon Price claims have been exposed as fraudulent as new data shows the “dramatic price hikes” in airfares predicted by the Coalition have completely failed to materialise.
In the face of the Coalition’s doom and gloom predictions and relentless negativity, new data from the Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics confirms Australian travellers are continuing to fly at record low prices.

For the holiday traveller, the Best Discount fare fell 17.4 per cent this month, compared to the month of June.

Similarly, Business Class airfares have dropped to their lowest price on record – dropping 20.6 per cent since they were first recorded in October 1992.

This new data confirms what Labor has been saying all along: under the Carbon Price the domestic aviation industry will continue to go from strength to strength.
Indeed, the new figures build on the business confidence expressed by the nation’s biggest carriers.
In recent weeks, Virgin has increased its capacity by more than 15 per cent and ordered 23 new fuel efficient aircraft from Boeing. Qantas too is adding over 10 per cent capacity growth this month.
Let there be no doubt: Australia’s aviation industry has a bright future and will continue to grow under the carbon price.
By pricing carbon, we’re acting in the national interest and safeguarding the future for our children and grandchildren.
