Labor mourns the loss of former Premier of Victoria John Cain.
John Cain was a great man who changed Victoria forever. He led Labor to government in a landslide victory in 1982 after almost three decades in opposition.
Throughout his eight years as Premier it was clear he was there for a reason. His Government lead ground breaking social reform, including recognising Aboriginal land rights.
In 1982 he appointed the first woman to Cabinet in Victoria.
John Cain governed for all Victorians, achieving the lowest unemployment rates and strongest economic growth in Australia.
Labor sends our condolences to his wife Nancye and their three children.
