The Gilgandra community today celebrated the opening of three important projects aimed at providing much needed social and community infrastructure to the region.
Anthony Albanese, Minister for Infrastructure and Local Government, said the Rudd Labor Government provided $100,000 to the Gilgandra Shire Council for the projects from our $1 billion Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (RLCIP).
“The RLCIP is a key part of the Rudd Labor Government’s Economic Stimulus Plan and is delivering local jobs in communities across Australia, by building infrastructure for the long term,” Mr Albanese said.
“Importantly, during construction of the Gilgandra projects, 12 local tradespeople were employed, providing a boost to the local economy.
“The completed projects include upgrades to the Windmill Walk linking the Gilgandra Visitors Centre to the CBD, enhancements to the Gilgandra Library to improve mobility access and improvements to the Gilgandra Cemetery.
“In partnership with every council in the country we are delivering more than 4,900 small and larger scale building projects like these, including new and refurbished public libraries, sporting facilities, parks and playgrounds, and child care centres.
“In fact, we are making the single largest federal investment in community infrastructure through the RLCIP.
“I congratulate the Gilgandra Shire Council and the local community for helping deliver these three projects, and helping to build a stronger region for the future,” Mr Albanese concluded.
