Upgrade To Caloundra Tennis Centre To Boost Sunshine Coast’s Economy

The Federal Labor Government will contribute almost $800,000 towards a major upgrade of the Caloundra Tennis Centre which will attract more national and international visitors to the Sunshine Coast.
This project will upgrade the Caloundra Tennis Centre to become a regional tennis centre that could cater for regional, national and international tennis events.
Through the addition of eight new hard courts, one show court and associated works, the facilities will meet International Tennis Federation standards for court sizes, surfaces and lighting.
Having high quality facilities that attract larger and more regular sporting events will provide a positive economic impact especially for the local food, transport, retail and accommodation business which will all benefit from increased visitors to the region.
The Tennis Centre will provide services and facilities for players of all ages and levels of ability, and include coaching for people with disabilities.
In practice, it will help foster the next generation of local tennis champions through the development of regional tennis & high performance programs.
This project is a good example of the real benefits of targeted, long-term investment in regional communities.
Overall, the project is expected to generate around 21 new jobs during the construction stage and 6 ongoing jobs.
The project is expected to be completed by end 2015.
Funding is being provided through Round Four of the Regional Development Australia Fund.
