World Class Cultural Centre For Inner West

Member for Grayndler Anthony Albanese today opened the $7.4 million Italian Cultural Centre in Leichhardt.
The long-awaited Centre, completed with a $3.6 million grant from the Federal Labor Government will include a state-of-the-art theatre and performance space for the Leichhardt and inner west communities.
“For many years, volunteers from the Italian community have been working to see their vision of a cultural centre for Leichhardt become a reality and I’m delighted the Federal Labor Government has provided $3.6 million to help bring this vision to life,” Mr Albanese said.
“As someone of Italian ancestry I am excited about the ways that this Cultural Centre will nourish Leichhardt’s rich Italian heritage
“The new centre is an extremely valuable piece of community infrastructure that reflects our diversity. It will attract cultural events to Leichhardt and will provide a performance space for local schools and organisations for decades to come.”
The Cultural Centre will:

  • Be a state-of-the-art theatre, performance space and auditorium available for use by local schools, community organisations and volunteers

  • Attract a variety of professional and community arts and cultural events to Leichhardt

  • Celebrate and build on the Italian cultural heritage of Leichhardt and add to the cultural diversity of Sydney’s inner west
