2005 Human Rights Medal And Awards

Anthony Albanese MP, Federal Member for Grayndler, today reminded local residents and organisations about the 2005 Human Rights Medal and Awards.

Mr Albanese said, “The Medal and Awards are presented by the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission, and are an excellent opportunity to acknowledge the work of those who promote and protect human rights in our local communities.”

While the Human Rights Medal recognises individual achievement in the promotion and protection of human rights, the Awards are presented both to individuals and organisations who have made significant contributions to human rights in the areas of Law, Community, Arts Non-Fiction, Print Media, Television and Radio.

Mr Albanese said, “As the theme for this year’s Human Rights Medal and Awards is Celebrate our Local Champions!, this is a wonderful opportunity to recognise those within our local communities who work so hard on a daily basis to promote and protect human rights in Australia.”

“I encourage all those who would like further information about the Medal and Awards or who would like to make a nomination to visit the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission’s website www.hreoc.gov.au/hr_awards/index.html” said Mr Albanese.

Nomination forms for the 2005 Human Rights Medal and Awards are also available on the Commission’s website, and entries close at 5pm on 30 September 2005.
