Marrickville continues to give generously to the Queensland and Victorian flood appeals with a group of volunteers today collecting items of clothing to send to people who have lost everything in the floods.
Marrickville resident Hellen McGlade organised a group of over 50 people to knock on doors in the south Marrickville area, collecting clothes, linen and toys.
The generosity of the volunteers was matched by Emanuel Tsardoulias from Epicurean Kitchen and George Mitzinis from Glasshouse Cafe Bar, who donated cakes and coffee to all volunteers, to energise them for the task at hand.
The group met with local Labor MP Anthony Albanese beforehand who praised their commitment to help others.
"Australians pride themselves on mateship and this is true mateship, helping others when they're down," said Mr Albanese
"It was great to see the people of Brisbane come out in huge numbers to help clean up their city and it is great to see the people of Marrickville doing their bit as well."
Mr Albanese also paid tribute to Hellen McGlade for her initiative and determination to organise the collection.
