Federal Member for Grayndler, Anthony Albanese, today congratulated local men’s swimwear manufacturer aussieBum on winning the Small to Medium Manufacturer Award category in the 47th Annual Australian Export Awards.

aussieBum is based in Leichhardt and is the creation of founders Sean Ashby and Guyon Holland and was established in 2001, when Sean identified niche opportunities in the swimwear market.

“It is fantastic to see a local business recognised for their work in contributing to Australia’s economy by exporting Australian products and fashion to the rest of the world,” Mr Albanese said.

Australian sales constitute 10% of aussieBum’s total revenues, which are in excess of $20 million.

The business has now grown and locally manufactures more than 150 different products, creating more than 30 direct local jobs and many more indirect jobs through their local supply chains.

Winners across 12 categories and the Prime Minister’s Australian Exporter of the Year were announced at a National Awards Ceremony last Friday, 20th November 2009 in the Great Hall at Parliament House in Canberra.

The Australian Export Awards is a national annual program of events that seeks to recognise excellence and achievement in exporting. More information can be found at www.exportawards.gov.au
