It is an honour to have been preselected unopposed to contest Grayndler as the Labor candidate at the next federal election.
This will be my 7
th election and I am more determined than ever before to continue to be a strong, progressive voice for our diverse multicultural community.
The people of Grayndler need to be represented by an effective and experienced voice in the Australian Parliament who can deliver real solutions for the community and protect its future.
As a Cabinet Minister in the Federal Labor Government, I’ve sat at the Cabinet table and argued for significant reforms including a price on carbon pollution, an education revolution in our schools, a National Disability Insurance Scheme, creation of the world’s largest marine reserve and removal of legislative discrimination against same-sex couples
In Grayndler, I am proud to have delivered:
- Over $86 million to local schools and TAFE colleges for better facilities and new classrooms, halls and libraries.
- Over $2 million to clean up the Cooks River and improve amenity along the River, including the cycleway
- $1.7 million for a new Early Learning and Care Centre at the Ashfield Infants Home
- Over $32 million for vital local infrastructure projects including the construction of the Ashfield Civic Centre, the upgrade of Henson Park and Mackey Park, the upgrade of Arlington Oval and Leichhardt Oval, construction of the Italian Forum Cultural Centre and improvements to Croydon North Shopping precinct.
These are achievements I am extremely proud of and will make our community stronger and fairer.
I would like to express my thanks to the rank and file members of local branches of the ALP for their support in the preselection. I will continue to fight for the progressive principles that the Labor Party stands for, as I have done in the past.
