Anthony Albanese, Minister for Infrastructure, Regional Development and Local Government, was in Coffs Harbour today for the official commencement of the multi-million dollar Brelsford Park project – the Adventure Playground.
Mr Albanese turned the first sod to kick-off construction on the project, which has received nearly $1.1 million from the Rudd Labor Government.
“The Brelsford Park project has been funded from the Rudd Labor Government’s Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program, which now stands at more than $1 billion,” Mr Albanese said.
“The first stage involves the construction of an adventure playground with innovative activities and modern equipment activities for children.”
The Brelsford Park Adventure Playground will include:
- a play tower;
- interactive water feature;
- rope play structure;
- multi-use play deck;
- disc roundabout;
- chalk boards;
- patterned pavements;
- swings, seesaws, scientific sets, sand diggers; and
- a range of toddler play equipment.
Mr Albanese continued, “Through our Economic Stimulus plan, the Government is supporting local jobs during the current global recession while investing in the infrastructure and facilities our growing communities need.
“Coffs Harbour is one of the fastest growing communities in New South Wales and there is great demand for recreational facilities for young families.
“I congratulate the Coffs Harbour City Council and the community for making the Brelsford Park project a reality, and creating local jobs to support the economy,” Mr Albanese concluded.
The Playground will also incorporate a central pathway in the shape of a giant dragon.
