Clean Energy Future On Track

The Government’s historic Clean Energy legislation has now passed through the House of Representatives.
For the first time, Australia will have a price on carbon that will put us on the path to significant reductions in the amount of greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere.
A carbon price will cut pollution and drive investment in clean energy sources.
This has been a tough reform, but it’s the right thing to do for our economy and our environment. It’s also the right thing to do for future generations.
It will allow Australia to seize the economic and job opportunities that will come as the world tackles climate change and shifts to a clean energy future.
The 19 Bills, comprising the Clean Energy legislation and the Steel Transformation Plan Bill, represent one of the most important environmental and economic reforms ever undertaken.
It will provide certainty to business and encourage further investment in clean energy and low emission technologies.
The carbon price will be paid by around 500 of the largest polluters and the Government will use the revenue to assist households through tax cuts and increases in family payments.
This legislation addresses the science and ensures that Australia plays its part internationally.
The legislation will now be introduced to the Senate and the Government will work to secure its passage by the end of the year.
