The Rudd Labor Government will provide $800,000 for four ready-to-go community infrastructure projects across the Australian Capital Territory as part of our plan to support jobs in the local economy while delivering lasting benefits for communities.
The new funding would go towards upgrades to Canberra’s bicycle infrastructure and bus shelters, the mobile library in Woden, John Knight Memorial Park in Belconnen, and recreational facilities at the Western Foreshore District Park.
Anthony Albanese, Minister for Infrastructure and Local Government said that these four projects are expected to support 25 jobs during construction.
"We will deliver this funding to the ACT Government through the second round of our Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (RLCIP).
"The funding we’ve announced today will keep more people working in the Capital region, it will support the economy, and it will build local infrastructure for the future," he said.
Bob McMullan, Member for Fraser, today said that he was pleased to see this investment in Canberra’s community infrastructure.
"The Rudd Labor Government is creating better libraries, parks and bicycle infrastructure to encourage healthier, more sustainable lifestyles for Canberra residents," he said.
Annette Ellis, Member for Canberra said by upgrading this vital community infrastructure, we’re supporting jobs today while making our communities better places to live.
"The four projects announced today were put forward by the ACT Government as local community priorities," she said.
Mr Albanese said that more than 3,300 community construction projects had either been completed or were underway through the first round of this $1 billion program.
