Funding For Drummoyne Oval

The Gillard Labor Government has pledged to boost funding for the Drummoyne Oval Redevelopment, which will deliver new floodlights for to the Precinct.

The announcement was made today by Anthony Albanese, Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Local Government and Labor Member for Lowe, John Murphy.

This commitment of $1.75 million will deliver six lighting towers of international broadcasting standard to the Drummoyne Oval.

“Investing in the Drummoyne Oval Redevelopment is an important part of Federal Labor’s plans to build stronger local communities,” Mr Albanese said.

“This project will create jobs during its construction phase and will be a great benefit to local sporting groups who use the oval.”

John Murphy said the new lighting was an integral part of the Drummoyne Oval Redevelopment.

“The upgraded lighting will provide opportunities for the local community to enjoy international and national sporting and cultural events,” Mr Murphy said.

“The Gillard Labor Government is committed to supporting active, sustainable local communities.”

The funding will build on Federal Labor’s record investment in local infrastructure, including over $5 million for the first stage of the Drummoyne Oval Redevelopment, which is now complete.

Funding for this contribution will be fully offset over the forward estimates, consistent with the Gillard Labor Government’s commitment to return the budget to surplus in three years.
