Great Western Highway: Alliance Partners Announced

Sinclair Knight Merz and Parsons Brinckerhoff have been selected to partner with the RTA to undertake the detailed design work and obtain the necessary environmental approvals for the upgrade of the Great Western Highway between Mount Victoria and Lithgow.

Following the selection of a preferred route after two years of intensive planning and community consultations, this alliance will refine the highway’s new alignment as well as determine the location of intersections and lane arrangements.

They will also carry out more detailed geotechnical and environmental investigations.

This work is expected to be completed later this year, clearing the way for the staged upgrade of this road to begin shortly thereafter.

In the meantime, the delivery of the long overdue safety improvements around Victoria Pass and the township of Mount Victoria, including the installation of median barriers and road widening, will continue.

All up, the Gillard Labor Government has committed an initial $200 million as part of our Nation Building Program to deliver safer, smoother driving conditions for the more than 8,000 motorists that use this section of highway every day.

The NSW Government has committed a further $50 million.

More information about this project can be obtained by calling the RTA on 1800 035 733 (toll free) or going to: www.rta.nsw.gov.au and following the links.
