Inner West Families Hit By Childcare Cuts

Inner West childcare providers will feel the heat, following the Abbott Government’s decision to cut $157 million from the Community Support Program.

Family Day Care Australia estimates that from next year families will be paying an extra $35 per week as a result of this cut.
In my electorate of Grayndler there are three Family Day Care service providers- Marrickville Family Day Care Scheme, Leichhardt Family Day Care Scheme and the Family Day Care Sydney Wide Scheme in Ashfield.
In the Inner West, demand for childcare has increased dramatically over the past few years.
The Federal Government should be helping parents return to work instead of cutting funding to the childcare services they rely on.
The family day care program is there to ensure childcare is provided where it is needed the most.
Families in the Inner West have told me they can’t afford to bear the brunt of Abbott’s budget burden.
Family Day Care has operated in Australia for over 35 years and is part of the National Quality Framework.
It is the major provider of regulated, flexible, non-standard hours childcare and throughout Australia over 80,000 families make use of its services.
The Community Support Program was established in 2004 and subsidises not only family day care, but also long day care providers.
The Coalition’s changes to the program will affect not only new, but existing family day care services
