Labor Member for Grayndler, Anthony Albanese, said he is pleased with the progress of work at the Italian Forum Cultural Centre in Leichhardt.
Speaking at a dinner to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the foundation of the Italian Republic, Mr Albanese said he was delighted to hear that the work was scheduled to be completed by September this year.
“I am proud to be part of an Australian Labor Government that committed $3.67 million to this project, money that is supporting jobs and providing valuable infrastructure for our future,” said Mr Albanese.
Mr Albanese also expressed pride in the contribution that Italian Australians have made to this country.
“As someone of Italian heritage I am very proud to represent the Prime Minister here at the 65th anniversary of the Italian Republic,” said Mr Albanese.
The dinner was hosted by Italian Consul-General Benedetto Latteri at the Forum. 2011 is an auspicious year for Italy. As well as the 65th anniversary of the Republic, established shortly after the end of World War II, it marks the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy in 1861.
