Sports bodies, local government representatives and Grayndler MP Anthony Albanese this week came together to discuss skyrocketing participation in community sports at the Inner West Sports Forum, held in Leichhardt.
Leichhardt Mayor Darcy Byrne and Mr Albanese co-hosted the forum, which aims to ensure ongoing community access to sports facilities for residents close to home.
“It’s really important that sport and all levels of government keep working together to deliver high quality sports facilities in our local community,” Mr Albanese said.
“Just recently I turned the new broadcast quality lights on at Drummoyne Oval which was a great partnership between sport and all three levels of government”.
“That’s the sort of cooperation and united approach that gets things done and drives the increased interest in playing sport that we’re seeing now”.
The Federal Labor Government has delivered more than $20 million worth of upgrades and developments at Inner West sports clubs and grounds including:
- Henson Park
- Mackey Park
- Belmore Oval
- Arlington Oval
- Leichhardt Secondary College Playing Field
- Leichhardt Oval
- Beaman Park
- Ron Routley Oval
- Drummoyne Oval
- Ashfield Oval
- Hammond Park
Representatives from Football NSW, AFLNSW, Basketball NSW and the NSW Rugby League attended the forum along with Leichhardt Mayor Darcy Byrne, and representatives from Ashfield, Strathfield, Marrickville and Canada Bay councils.
