Labor welcomes the appointment of Michael Taylor to the board of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.
AMSA, responsible for setting and regulating standards for maritime safety, is a well-run and well-respected organization, a fact acknowledged when the previous Labor Government enhanced its status to that of national regulator.
Mr Taylor has a long track record in transport, including as a former secretary of the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government in the five years to 2009.
Mr Taylor also brings a wealth of experience and contacts in the international transport sector.
That’s important given Australia’s participation in the International Maritime Organisation and the importance of international maritime issues to our island continent.
His experience will be a great asset to the board of AMSA as it goes about its important work over the next three years.
