Last Chance To Nominate An Older Australian Who Makes You Proud

There are only a few days left to honour an older Australian who makes you proud by nominating them for the Senior Australian of the Year Award 2004, Anthony Albanese MP, Federal Member for Grayndler said today.

"Nominations close on August 29 which means there are only a few days left to get your nomination form in," Mr Albanese said.

“I am sure we can all think of at least one person from the electorate of Grayndler over the age of 60 who makes us proud, who has made Australia a better place to live. I know I can.

It does not have to be someone famous - around the nation there are so many ordinary Australians doing extraordinary things and we should acknowledge and reward them.

So many older people in Grayndler contribute so much to our community. This is a great way we can thank them.

Everyone who is nominated will receive a certificate.

We need to encourage positive attitudes to ageing and older Australians and this award allows us to celebrate the achievements of our senior Australians. I strongly urge everyone to take part in the nominations.

Nomination forms are available from Commonwealth Bank branches or you can nominate online by visiting http://www.australianoftheyear.gov.au.

Winners in each state and territory will be announced in November. The national award winners will be announced on January 25, 2004 as part of the Australia Day celebrations.
