Local Families Benefit From Paid Parental Leave

An Inner West baby boom has seen many local families take advantage of the Gillard Labor Government's Paid Parental Leave scheme.
Since the scheme started last year, over 1400 parents have had claims for payments approved, one of the highest rates in the country.
Paid Parental leave provides eligible working parents with up to 18 weeks parental leave pay at the national minimum wage (currently about $590 a week).
For many local families, this is the first time they have been able to access paid parental leave.
"Progressive women have campaigned for paid parental leave for years," said Anthony Albanese.
"As with all other progressive social reforms, it was delivered by a Labor Government."
Next year the scheme will be extended to include two weeks Dad and Partner Pay.
