This Saturday I will join members of our community in celebrating 100 years of service from Marrickville Fire Station.
Our firefighters have done a tremendous job over these decades.
While Saturday celebrates a centenary for Marrickville Fire Station, it’s much more than celebrating the building.
It’s about recognising the dedication and commitment of the hundreds of firefighters who have put their lives on the line in order to defend our local community.
Our firefighters respond to 1500 calls a year.
It is always reassuring to know we have such a committed local fire brigade on standby in times of emergency.
Yet this has not stopped the NSW Liberals from cutting services.
The NSW Liberal Government should reverse its policy of not ensuring that fire brigades stay open every day.
This will only see response times increase.
As we celebrate this centenary we should ensure the operations of fire stations, including Marrickville, are not subject to budget cuts.
