Matt Williams Seeks Credit for Labor Road Project

Hindmarsh Liberal MP Matt Williams has attempted to claim political credit for a major road project in Adelaide funded by the former Labor government prior to his election.

Today in Question Time Assistant Infrastructure Minister Jamie Briggs and Mr Williams pretended that the Torrens to Torrens project was a new initiative when in fact it was funded in the 2013 Labor Government Budget.

Credit for advocacy for the project belongs to the Member for Adelaide, Kate Ellis and the former Member for Hindmarsh, Steve Georganas.

Matt Williams spent much of the election campaign silent on Tony Abbott’s promise to rip funding out of his own electorate of Hindmarsh.

The Torrens to Torrens project will create 500 jobs, ease congestion, decrease travel times and boost South Australia’s productivity.

After delaying work for eight months the Abbott Government recently agreed with Labor that this jointly funded project with the South Australian Government could resume.

This is the latest in the Abbott Government’s increasingly pathetic campaign to conceal its inability to deliver infrastructure by claiming credit for projects already funded and begun by the previous Labor Government.
