Albanese Government delivers $8.5 million for Sydney Jewish Museum

Today the Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese joined the Member for Sydney, Minister Tanya Plibersek and the Member for Wentworth, Allegra Spender to announce $8.5 million to upgrade the Sydney Jewish Museum.

The Sydney Jewish Museum was founded in 1992 as a place for Holocaust survivors and Jewish Australians to share memories, commemorate those lost, and educate the community about Jewish heritage and culture.

The funding will go towards the Centre of Jewish Life and Tolerance which will sit alongside the Sydney Jewish Museum.

The museum has 55,000 visitors every year including around 35,000 high school students. With a range of permanent and feature exhibitions, the Sydney Jewish Museum offers an engaging education program for students of all ages to learn about the history of Judaism.

The funding will be available in the Albanese Government’s Mid-Year Economic Financial Outlook.

Quotes attributable to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese

Today I am announcing $8.5 million towards the Sydney Jewish Museum.

This museum teaches visitors about the atrocities of the Holocaust and speaks to the courage and resilience the Jewish community have shown in the face of antisemitism over generations.

“It says to us all: Never Again.

In this time of grief and pain, we must all work together to heed the lessons of the past, to consign the evil of antisemitism to history.

Education is a key pillar of the Museum with 35,000 high school students visiting every year - I want those young people to know this history and to know that such prejudice, hatred and violence has no place in Australia’s present or its future.”
