Approval Of Adelaide Airport’s 2009 Master Plan

I have approved Adelaide Airport’s 2009 Master Plan which establishes its future direction and investment program.

The Master Plan outlines the expansion of aviation and passenger facilities at the airport, including a new charter terminal, air traffic control tower, multi-level car park and hotel, road modifications, and relocation of freight handling facilities.

The curfew arrangements at Adelaide Airport will remain in place, providing the community respite from aircraft noise at night.

Following the release of the Rudd Labor Government’s National Aviation Policy Statement, as well as the Master Plan consultation process, Adelaide Airport will strengthen its engagement with state and local governments and the community.

This improved engagement includes:

  • better integration with state and local planning by extending public commentary periods for development assessments and extending notification of all airport developments to neighbouring land owners;

  • better management of aircraft noise impacts by working with the South Australian Government to incorporate aircraft noise contours into land use planning as a protection against inappropriate developments; and

  • working with state and local governments to minimise traffic impacts by reviewing progressively airport access arrangements ahead of any major airport developments.

Further, I have specifically asked Adelaide Airport to conduct regular consultations with the City of West Torrens on planning and development matters, in addition to existing arrangements through its Airport Consultative Committee.

Adelaide Airport contributes over $1.6 billion to the South Australian economy and supports over 16,500 direct and indirect jobs.

Adelaide Airport has 50 business days to make this five-yearly Master Plan public.
