Commonwealth Integrity Commission

Motions

Mr ALBANESE (Grayndler—Leader of the Opposition) (17:19): I seek leave to move the following motion:

That so much of the standing orders be suspended as would prevent the Member for Grayndler from moving the following motion immediately—The House:

(1) notes:

(a) the Morrison government has just voted down a privileges motion given precedence by the Speaker for the first time since Federation;

(b) the motion related to a possible contempt by the Member for Pearce; and

(c) it has been more than 1,000 days since this Prime Minister promised to introduce a Federal Anti-Corruption Commission; and

(2) calls on the Prime Minister to immediately:

(a) introduce a bill to establish a Federal Anti-Corruption Commission with the powers of a standing Royal Commission; and

(b) agree to refer the Member for Pearce to the Committee of Privileges and Members' Interests.

Leave not granted.

Mr ALBANESE: I move:

That so much of the standing orders be suspended as would prevent the Manger of Opposition Business from moving the following motion immediately:

The motion was unavailable at time of publishing.

We need to restore the faith of the Australian people in our political system. All of us have a responsibility to do this. It is more than 1,000 days since the Prime Minister promised an anticorruption commission and no wonder—
