Labor Delivering for Multicultural Communities in Grayndler

A re-elected Albanese Labor Government will provide $100,000 to ensure the popular Bairro Português and Norton Street Italian Festivals continue to be held and bring the community together through two election commitments.

Each festival will receive an election commitment of $50,000 to ensure the continued growth and success of these beloved community events.

For over 20 years, the Bairro Português Street Festival has brought the culture of Portugal to the streets and people of Petersham. A celebration of Portuguese heritage, culture, and traditions, this family-friendly festival offers a unique opportunity to explore and appreciate the vibrant cultural history of Portugal through food, music, dance, and art.

The Norton Street Italian Festa is one of Sydney’s most highly anticipated cultural events taking place in Leichhardt, the heart of the city's Italian community, often referred to as "Little Italy." This annual festival is a vibrant celebration of Italian heritage, culture, food, and dance, strengthening Italian Australians’ connection to culture and celebrating the contributions of the Italian diaspora to Australia’s multicultural history.

Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.

Quotes attributable to Hon. Anthony Albanese MP:

“The Bairro Português Street Festival offers the community a chance to experience the rich Portuguese heritage of Petersham and celebrate the contributions of the Portuguese Australian community.

“The Norton Street Italian Festa is more than just a celebration of Italian food, culture, and heritage; it is a heartfelt expression of the Italian Australian story.”
