Labor to invest $20 million in women's and children's trauma recovery centre for Central Coast

A re-elected Albanese Labor Government will provide $20 million to establish The Coast Women’s and Children’s Trauma Recovery Centre in East Gosford.

The new frontline domestic, family and sexual violence service will help up to 500 women and children to recover from violence and abuse and will provide much needed crisis and transitional accommodation.

The community-led initiative will offer a wrap around, trauma-sensitive approach to support recovery from domestic, family and sexual violence trauma – with a focus on working with children to help break the cycle of violence.

This election commitment builds on our major investments of over $1.2 billion in crisis and transitional accommodation.

The Albanese Labor Government has made ending violence against women and children a national priority.

That’s why we’re investing a record $4 billion in the National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children.

It’s also why we convened two National Cabinet meetings on gendered violence last year, working with states and territories to accelerate action.

Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with the Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.

Quotes attributable to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese:

“We must end the scourge of violence against women.

“We know we have a great deal more work to do and we cannot be satisfied until the violence stops.

“Investing in centres like this is crucial, so women know they have a safe place to go.

“This builds on what we’re already delivering – more than $4 billion in our National Plan, 33 new shelters for women and children, bringing together states and territories, as well new approaches to target perpetrators and early intervention to stop violence.”

Quotes attributable to Minister for Social Services Amanda Rishworth:

“We know that if a woman knows she has a safe place to go and take her children, she is more likely to take the steps to leave a violent relationship.

“The establishment of The Coast Women’s and Children’s Trauma Recovery Centre will save lives and provide women with a safe place to go, where they can connect with the specialised services and support they need to heal, recover and build a life free from violence.”

Quotes attributable to the Member for Robertson Dr Gordon Reid:

“These supports for women and children fleeing family and domestic violence will make a difference.

“Providing a safe roof over their heads is absolutely vital, in what is one of the most difficult moments of their lives.

“This will provide wrap around services – which is why we’re committed to this investment on the Central Coast.”
