Launch of Labor's Multicultural Engagement Taskforce report, with Peter Khalil MP (Wills), Anne Stanley MP (Werriwa) , Andrew Giles MP (Scullin), and Charmaine Hunzwi from Incubate Foundation.
Multiculturalism is one of the great success stories of Australia. It is a constant reminder that we are stronger together. In 1973, the Whitlam Government introduced the Racial Discrimination Act. Ever since then, Labor has championed multicultural policy as a cornerstone of Australian values and social cohesion. But it isn’t a success that we can take for granted. Even something as strong as multiculturalism can begin to wither if we neglect it.
The Multicultural Engagement Taskforce was launched in December 2019 and worked right through 2020. As you’re only too aware, 2020 didn’t quite go according to plan but the Taskforce still did its job.
The report has been translated into 5 languages, which you can read below.
