This week I had the opportunity to partner with TransGrid to deliver a new bus to the Ethnic Community Services Co-Operative in Marrickville.
Originally established as one of the first childcare centres in Australia, the ECSC has evolved into a multipurpose and multicultural services hub at Addison Road Community Centre that supports our most vulnerable and disadvantaged.
Sometimes things just fall into place. TransGrid came to see me and advised me of some works that were required that were going to be disruptive to our local community. To their credit they came to me first and said, “How do you reckon we manage this?”
Funding provided by TransGrid as part of their Community Partnership Program will allow people across the Inner West, particularly NDIS and aged care participants, to access community and social support programs. This initiative reflects my fundamental belief that no one should be held back, and no one should be left behind.
Enabling these across-sector projects is one of the great parts of this job and its why I’m proud to be the local member in the Inner West. Initiatives such as this are a win for all involved and it is the community work that makes a difference.
