I offer my condolences to the Greek Orthodox community in Australia following the sad news of the passing of His Eminence Archbishop Stylianos, the Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church of Australia.
His Eminence, who served as Archbishop in Australia since 1975, was a towering figure in the Greek Orthodox community in Australia and an internationally respected scholar and theologian.
He was dedicated to the selfless service of human kind and was widely respected across the broader Australian community.
I always appreciated Archbishop Stylianos’s wise counsel. In 2015 I was honoured to be the only politician asked to speak at a Sydney celebration of his 40th anniversary as Archbishop.
I also offer my respects to His Eminence’s family and friends and to all the Orthodox community. He was a great man and he will be missed
