Leichhardt now has an all abilities playground in Pioneers Memorial Park, made possible by funding of $91 000 from the Gillard Labor Government.
Anthony Albanese, federal member for Grayndler, joined locals to congratulate everyone involved in the project and officially open the park.
“This playground is the first of its kind in this community and will provide a wide range of play experiences for all children, including children with disability,” said Mr Albanese.
“This is a great example of the way that the Gillard Labor Government is working with local councils to deliver on community needs,” Mr Albanese said.
Leichhardt Council has been a project partner and their funding of $60 000 brings the project total funding to $151 000.
“This project created 30 local jobs during the planning and development stages,” Mr Albanese said.
“Funding has come from the 1.1 billion Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program, which is creating thousands of jobs around the country through the building of great community facilities like this.
“From the same program, we also funded the upgrade of the oval at the Leichhardt Campus of Sydney Secondary College and we are helping complete the Cultural Centre at the Italian Forum.”
